Solar towers, also known as central tower power plants or heliostat power plants are a key component of concentrated solar thermal systems.

Solar Towers

A solar tower is part of the so called Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) system, i.e. a Power Plant that utilises the sunlight to produce renewable Energy. Particularly, the system consists of an array of flat, movable mirrors (called heliostats) to focus the sun’s rays upon a target (solar receiver) erected on top of a high tower. The solar receiver is heated by the sun’s rays and produces steam that with downpipes is brought down from the tower until reaching a specific turbine for the generation of electricity.

Ferbeck designs and builds concrete towers to support solar receivers, capable of reaching considerable heights of more than 200 meters and supporting concentrated loads of the solar receiver that can exceed 3,000 tons.
